          Where the wild things are by Maurice Sendak

          Where the Wild Things Are (1963) by Maurice Sendak is a children's picture book that follows Max, a young mischievous boy dressed in a wolf costume, as he conjures up a wild adventure in his bedroom. After Max makes mischief he is sent to bed without supper by his mother. That night Max’s room grows into a forest and adventures ensue. The room grows so big that Max gets into a boat on the ocean and travels for a year to "where the wild things are." These wild things are truly wild, but Max tames them and they make him their king. They all play together happily, but when the wild things go to bed, Max becomes lonely. He smells a delicious dinner from far away and gets in his boat as the wild things protest. He travels all the way home to his room, where he finds a hot plate of food waiting for him. Another classic novel every child should read.
